Control of Rayleigh wave propagation through imposing Mindlin boundary conditions on the surface

A resonant metasurface design based on boundary condition (BC) manipulation was recently established to control low-frequency Lamb waves in a plate. This study identifies the necessary BCs that forbid Rayleigh wave propagation order find rational methodology for an optimized BC-controlled meta-surface. An analytical of Mindlin BCs, type Cauchy shows promise surface control. The frequency-domain and time-domain finite element studies performed by imposing path are consistent with predictions, exhibiting no transmission. simulations reveal mode conversions from bulk directed into half-space low amplitude reflection. For finite-sized BC patch, radial beam spreading mode-converted keeps some energy near surface, which could convert back at end patch. Thus, patch must be sufficiently long effectively suppress waves. Finally, we show can imposed rod-like prismatic resonator resonator’s longitudinal frequency. These findings provide new insights coupling promotes control, potentially leading novel designs.
